is diet coaching for me?
ABS ARE MADE IN THE KITCHEN…………..
Your nutrition is just as, or even MORE important than what you do for exercise. You work hard in the gym and want your results to show. Unfortunately, this involves spending even more time on your diet than you do working out. Many of us have tried one or more “diets” and lost weight, but our results didn’t last. There is a lot of bad information out there regarding nutrition and picking what “diet” you should try is overwhelming.
Well, our philosophy is you should not pick any of them. A person’s diet is unique and full of cultural, emotional, and socioeconomic factors. You should not do any type of diet for weight loss that you would not do for the rest of your life. While at first it may seem a particular “diet” is something you can do forever, the reality is your old ways of eating will slowly creep back in. When this happens, any weight lost will be gained back and possibly more. Instead of trying to completely change your diet, why not find a way to eat that incorporates your personal preferences? It is possible to find a way of eating on a “diet” that allows you to have the flavors and textures you love. When you learn how to make foods that meet YOUR specific dietary preferences, you have found the “diet” that you can do forever.
What diet coaching does
· Helps you figure out the calories and macronutrients that work for your goal of weight maintenance, weight loss, or weight gain.
· Teaches you how to plan your meals in a way that will be satisfying and meet your nutrition goals and fit in your life.
· Keeps you accountable to yourself and your coach.
· Makes you confront realistic portion sizes.
· Provides encouragement and support.
· Allows you to eat with your family and occasionally eat out.
· Encourage you lose weight in a slow, sustainable manner.
What diet coaching does not do
· Give you a specific meal plan to follow.
· Offer advice for any medical condition your physician has counseled you on.
· Advise you try to lose weight as fast as possible with a super-restrictive, extremely low-calorie diet.
This type of approach to dieting takes work and patience on your part. You need to be willing to grocery shop, cook, weigh and measure what you eat, and track your food in an app (My Fitness Pal preferred). You will have support and guidance along the way, but your coach can not want it for you and can not do it for you. There will be times that you will be confronted with truths you may not want to hear. Ultimately if you are not willing to change, this will not work. Do what you’ve always done, and you will get what you’ve always gotten!
If you are willing to put in the work it does get easier and you will learn so much about yourself and how you need to eat. Tracking your food doesn’t have to last forever but will give you the confidence to do it on your own. Ultimately with what you learn you can be in control of your weight for the rest of your life.
